  • ○ CTEH, an environmental consulting firm based in North Little Rock, said the five people on board the plane — including the pilot — were its employees. A company spokesman said the employees were responding to an explosion at an Ohio metals plant this week that killed one worker and sent more than a dozen to the hospital.
  • ○ It's true that CTEH had been contracted by Norfolk Southern in response to the derailment in East Palestine, as stated by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH).
  • But there is no suggestion beyond the speculation on social media that the connection between that incident and the plane crash is anything more than coincidence.
  • At least five people are killed and 48 others are reported missing following a collapse at a coal mine in Alxa League, Inner Mongolia, China. Search and rescue operations are underway. (Reuters)
  • China unveils a 12-point position paper on ending the war in Ukraine, ahead of an expected speech by President Xi Jinping on the conflict. Ukraine says that it hopes China can urge Russia to withdraw its troops in response to the paper. (The Guardian)

  • Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă unveils an AI-run "honorary advisor" named Ion, who's purpose is to analyze and report on the biggest priorities facing Romanian citizens based on user submissions.
